Jamie Eric Leavitt (Jay)

Nine years ago, on August 6th, 2000, my son Jamie died in a Victoria hospital. He had been fighting drug addiction and HIV and died from Non-Hodgkins lymphoma at the age of 29. He had been living more or less on the street for his last year.

Jamie was a loving, intelligent soul with a passionate heart. He always wanted to help people who were in trouble, and he was deeply connected to the natural world and concerned about the way society was abusing our earth.

A dedicated tree-hugger, he was a seeker who got lost somewhere along the way. He worked picking fruit in the Okanagon when first in B.C., and wrote home to New Brunswick about the beautiful lakes and beaches out there. Because he grew up with family on a Bay of Fundy island, he felt at home near the sea. With a wry sense of humour, at six feet tall, with blue eyes and dimples when he smiled, he was a good-looking, sweet guy.

He loved Tolkien's Middle Earth, the Grateful Dead, his grandparents, Dr. Who, shortbread cookies, swimming, his son Jesse, & this earth of ours. He is loved and missed, and I hope is at peace in "that far green country beyond the white shores, under a swift sunrise".Loved and remembered always by Mum
