Matt Burton

Matt had been my boyfriend for 6 months before he was taken from us. He was only 19 and had his whole life ahead of him. Matt knew where and what he wanted to do in life. My life was pretty much complete with Matt. Sure I was only 17 but I knew that he was with me forever. Yet my life was turned upside down and inside out the day of a fatal accident.

It happened at around 10 at night when he was driving home from work. He was about 5 kms away from his house when a truck ran a red light and went straight through him. He was killed. That truckie was let off and is still driving that same truck, yet Matt is gone.

Now a year on and yet the pain is still with me. Everything I see reminds me of Matt and the amazing person he was and still is. I wear a ring that I had found in his room in a box with my name on it. An engagement ring that tells me that Matt wanted to be with me forever. I still love him and know he's up there keeping me safe.

I love you, Matt, and always will.
